The overhaul approach we take will depend on the year model, as these DENSO made units for Lexus and Toyota experience entirely different types of failures according to the year range. The process is basically always going to be a combination of repairs to the copper traces that make up the map of the board and replacement parts addressing whatever damage and/or conditions are present in the ECU. For instance, an early 1990s model is far more likely to need repairs due to the electrolytic capacitors leaking a corrosive fluid onto the board. Whereas a post 2000 ECU will suffer from typical decay of the metals in the aging SMDs that are used all over the place on these things, and they need replaced.
